City Council Special Meeting - Apr 24 2024

The Biden Administration says it will move forward with a new billion-dollar weapons package for Israel. On Tuesday, the administration announced the package includes tank ammunition, tactical vehicles, and mortar rounds. The news comes a week after the White House paused a shipment of bombs to Israel after the IDF announced an assault on the city of Rafah, where over a-million Palestinians have fled to avoid the war.        President Biden and former President Trump are the winners of their respective primary races in West Virginia. Both were the only active candidates on each ballot as they continue to gain momentum towards another face-off in November. The other big result was West Virginia GOP Governor Jim Justice winning the nomination for the state's Senate seat being vacated by Senator Joe Manchin.        A group of TikTok content creators from eight states is suing the U.S. government over its efforts to ban the popular app. A law signed by President Biden last month calls for TikTok's China-based parent company ByteDance to sell the app or have it banned in the U.S. In the lawsuit, the creators call the law "unconstitutionally overbroad" and argue it violates the First Amendment rights of users.        Two closed hearings that were scheduled this week in the Bryan Kohberger case have been delayed until later this month. They involve defense motions that accuse prosecutors of withholding evidence. The delay is to give both sides more time to prepare.        Red Lobster is reportedly closing 87 restaurants across the country. The Florida-based chain's website shows the eateries are "temporarily closed," but a restaurant liquidator is already selling Lobster kitchen equipment. The 50-year-old casual dining pioneer is reportedly considering filing for bankruptcy protection.       The former interpreter for baseball superstar Shohei Ohtani entered a not-guilty plea to federal charges on Tuesday. The plea, in a Downtown Los Angeles Courtroom, is considered a formality as part of a plea deal that Ippei [[ e-pay ]] Mizuhara struck with prosecutors earlier this month. Mizuhara agreed to a plea deal on one count of bank fraud and one count of subscribing to a false tax return.
