Blackstone Valley residents invited to share ideas at free community dinner April 30 

  

WOONSOCKET, RI – The Rhode Island Foundation is inviting Blackstone Valley residents to share their thoughts about the issues that are important to them at a free community dinner Tues., April 30.  

 

“We want to hear what matters most to you. Sharing your perspective will help guide the Foundation's grantmaking, community engagement and more,” said David N. Cicilline, the Foundation’s president and CEO. “Your input is a way for us to better understand how you see things in your community. These conversations will help us shape a path forward for the Foundation that we will share later this year.”  

 

The event will be held at the Millrace Kitchen, 40 South Main St, Woonsocket, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public, but seating is limited. Register at rifoundation.org/togetherri.  

 

“We’re giving people the opportunity to talk face-to-face with each other over family-style meals. Bring your ideas for improving your community and the local challenges you’d like to see the Foundation address,” said Cicilline. 

 

Three additional get-togethers across Rhode Island are scheduled through May 22. The public can attend any of the sessions regardless of where they live. The complete schedule is posted at rifoundation.org/togetherri. 

 

The Foundation will provide moderators to help guide the conversations, but participants will drive the topics and discussions. The findings will be shared with participants and the public after the final session.

The Trump defense team will continue their cross-examination of Michael Cohen when the former President's hush money trial resumes on Thursday. The ex-Trump lawyer said today he instructed Stormy Daniels' lawyer to lie about an alleged sexual encounter with the former President.       The Biden Administration says it will move forward with a new billion-dollar weapons package for Israel. On Tuesday, the administration announced the package includes tank ammunition, tactical vehicles, and mortar rounds.        TikTok content creators from eight states are suing the U.S. government over its efforts to ban the popular app. A law signed by President Biden last month calls for TikTok's China-based parent company ByteDance to sell the app or have it banned in the U.S. The lawsuit argues the law violates the First Amendment rights of users.        Eighteen states are trying to block a federal agency from expanding legal protections for transgender workers. The Republican-led states filed a lawsuit Monday that would block new protections by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, saying the agency "overstepped" when it issued the legal guidance. The new guidance says employers who call workers by the wrong pronouns could face claims of workplace harassment.        A man has been arrested after he was involved in a bus crash that left eight people dead on Tuesday. Florida Highway Patrol says Bryan Howard was driving his truck eastbound near Orlando when he merged into the westbound lanes, crashing into a bus with 53 people onboard. Eight died, another eight are in critical condition, and 37 others suffered non-life-threatening injuries.       The "Rust" crew member convicted in the deadly 2021 on-set shooting is filing an appeal. Hannah Gutierrez was the film set's armorer when Halyna Hutchins was shot and killed by a live round from a prop gun held by actor Alec Baldwin. She was convicted of involuntary manslaughter and sentenced to 18 months in prison in April.
