Volunteers Invited to
"Restore North Smithfield"
with Town Wide Cleanup
During the weekend of April 24-25, residents of North Smithfield are invited to take an hour or two to get outside for some fresh air and “Restore North Smithfield” by picking up and bagging trash that is accumulated in these pre-selected locations:
Providence Pike/Route 5
Industrial Drive
Greenville Road
Hanton Road
Black Plain Road
Route 146 Exit Ramps at Greenville Road
Route 146 Exit Ramps at Pound Hill Road

“This effort is an opportunity to bridge the gap during the pandemic until we can safely resume holding another Clean & Green/Earth Day event,” said Town Administrator, Paul Zwolenski. “The town’s school and park properties are in good shape; however, these seven areas in particular are in need of a cleanup.”
Residents interested in volunteering can go to the town’s website, www.nsmithfieldri.org and click the “Restore North Smithfield” link on the main page. Follow the instructions to sign a participation liability waiver form and indicate which area you plan to clean. On Saturday, April 24, volunteers can also go to the North Smithfield Town Hall at 83 Green Street between 8:00am and 12:00pm to sign the waiver form and get assigned a location. A limited supply of collection bags and gloves will be available there.
For safety, volunteers are encouraged to wear bright, weather-appropriate clothing, gardening or work gloves and sunscreen. Volunteers should work within their “pod” or group of individuals they live with and protective Covid face masks should be worn in case of interactions with individuals outside their pod. It is recommended that volunteers bring drinking water. Adult supervision of minors is mandatory.
Filled bags should be securely tied off and left at the side of the road.
If volunteers plan to cleanup a site not listed above, they should contact the Department of Public Works at 401-767-2200, Ext. 348, to notify them for roadside bag pickup.
The cleanup effort mirrors the International Earth Day Network’s 2021 “Restore Our Earth” campaign. Earth Day is Thursday, April 22.
DID YOU KNOW?
You can bring your worn American Flag to the Town Hall for proper disposal. When your flag is worn and no longer fitting for display, bring it to the North Smithfield Town Hall, we have a flag disposal box that was made by an Eagle Scout. Your flag will be disposed of in a proper ceremony.

- Currently, our system that allows you to make a payment with your credit card online is down, we are in the process of getting this issue remedied.
DOG LICENSES
All dogs within the town must be licensed by April 30, 2021 to avoid a late fee. The cost is $6.00 per dog and proof of rabies immunization is required.
Due to COVID-19, for your convenience and safety, we have obtained a new online dog license program. We encourage you to use this online program.

If you are unable to access this program, we strongly suggest that you mail us a new or updated rabies certificate along with a check for $6.00. In return, our office will send your original rabies certificate back to you with your license to the mailing address provided.

North Smithfield Food Pantry
April pick up dates:
Saturdays, April 17th & 24th from 10:00-10:30 A.M.
Tuesdays, April 20th & 27th from 5:30- 6:00 P.M.
The Food Pantry is for North Smithfield residents.
You must have a photo ID and a bill that confirms your North Smithfield address. You can attend the Food Pantry all four times it is open per month.
The Pantry is located at the Slatersville Congregational Church UCC on the Common.
Due to the pandemic, the food is distributed through a drive through at the church. Please stay in your car and line up on Green Street and you will be welcomed and instructed.

New Information for Homebound Vaccinations
We want to make everyone aware that the three vendors that were contracted by the
State to conduct homebound vaccinations have begun scheduling and performing homebound vaccinations this week. We want to make you all aware that your residents who completed the online survey may receive calls from one of these three vendors: MedTech, Alert Ambulance, and PACERI, in order to schedule at date/time
to receive their vaccination at the address they provided. We know that some individuals are skeptical of receiving cold calls, especially those who are elderly and have been targeted by scammers in the past, so we appreciate you reassuring them that if they completed the survey and are contacted by one of these vendors it is legitimate and they should go ahead and work with the vendor to schedule their appointment as soon as possible.
Please also be aware that these three vendors should not be contacted directly to set up a homebound vaccination appointment but rather people must complete the online survey to get on the list of people to be served, the survey is located here: http://bit.ly/homeboundvax .
The U.S. Small Business Administration's Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) is reopening to new applicants and offering more flexibility within the program. It is also offering a second round of funding for qualifying recipients.
In 2020, the PPP helped nearly 18,000 Rhode Island businesses secure more than $1.8 billion in funding, and we hope these new resources will help Rhode Island's small businesses in need of assistance.
Here are a few updates and opportunities we want to make sure you are aware of:
• Reopening for new applicants. If you have not yet received PPP you will be able to apply. "First draw" PPP forgivable loans will be available for 2.5x your monthly payroll. We invite you to learn about eligibility requirements here. To learn more about the application process and how to apply, please contact your bank.
• Those who have already received PPP may be eligible for a second round of funding. Qualifying businesses that experienced at least a 25% reduction in gross receipts between comparable quarters in 2019 and 2020 may apply for a "second draw" forgivable loan for 2.5x your monthly payroll (or 3.5x your monthly payroll for accommodation and food service businesses). Contact your original PPP lender to learn how to apply. More information on this can be found here.
• Starting Tuesday, January 19. The SBA application portal recently opened for certain smaller lenders, including community banks and credit unions, and will open to all participating lenders on Tuesday, January 19. For more information, click here.
• Lender list available. R.I. Commerce has reached out to lenders to determine which are open to new R.I. applicants. Please consult this growing list of lenders that are receiving inquiries from new applicants.
• Other updates for existing PPP recipients. The recent federal stimulus legislation includes several important updates for existing PPP recipients, including increased forgiveness flexibility and updated tax treatment.

The House is expected to send articles of impeachment against Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas to the Senate Tuesday. The move will force the Democratic-led Senate to take up the matter of impeachment against Mayorkas. Republicans in the House impeached Mayorkas in February over his handling of the U.S.-Mexico border.
