TIP #1

Realize recycling, and recycling right, is the easiest thing you can do to help the environment.

TIP #2

Recycling Works! Nationally and locally, reduces waste, and saves the environment, tax dollars, landfill space,

natural resources & energy.

One simple action = so many positives!

YES - Recycling Works in RI

·     Rhode Island recycled 97,535 tons in 2021.

·     Good recyclables are not charged tip fees and are accepted FREE from RI cities & towns.

·     Recycling saved Rhode Island $5.2 Million Dollars in disposal fees in just one year.

·     Rhode Island Mixed Recycling Rate = 20.6%

TIP #3

Keep Plastic Bags & Plastic Film Out of Recycling

For at least 10 years, we have been reminding Rhode Island to never put plastic bags in the recycling bin.

But still, even after all this time, we still see lots of plastic bags everyday in recycling. Take a look at what is being sorted at RIRRC Materials Recycling Facility every day.

YIKES! Plastic Bags & Film in Recycling

Can you see the problem they cause?

This is a perfect picture of why

plastic bags or film are NOT accepted in recycling. They are get caught up in the sorting equipment.

This can cause damage to the machines, halt operations leading to a loss of processing time, and danger to workers who must clear the jams when they happen.

It's Up To You -- Make Sure ...........

No Plastic Bags in Recycling

No Bags of Bags in Recycling

No Bags of Recyclables in Recycling

TIP #4

Make Sorting Easy @ Home or @ Your Office

Place Recycling

Near Your Trash Bin

Make recycling sorting super easy-- place your two containers trash & recycling near each other.

No one is going to walk around holding recycling to find the recycle container. This way they don't have to. Every time we are getting rid of waste, the options are right there to easily sort right off the bat.

TIP #5

We Need You & Everyone to Be Part of the Solution

Only together can we make a real difference. If one person recycles correctly, that's great, but think of what we can accomplish if all ONE MILLION Rhode Islanders did.

Share this message! We want to reach as many as possible and those who might not see environmental messages.
