City of Woonsocket to Hold Veterans Day Observance on Monday, November 11, 2024

 

WOONSOCKET, R.I: Mayor Christopher Beauchamp announced today the City of
Woonsocket along with the United Veterans Council of Woonsocket (UVC) will be holding
the annual Veterans Day Observance on Monday, November 11, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at
the United Veterans Council Armed Forces Park on Davison Avenue. Members of the
community are invited to attend the observance to recognize the contributions of our
veterans both past and present, and to show appreciation of their service.
WOON 1240 AM Radio will broadcast this event live. In the event of inclement weather,
the ceremony will be moved to City Hall in Harris Hall. Any change in location will be aired
on WOON and/or WNRI.

 

 

An appeals court is going to decide whether the Trump administration can continue to deporting immigrants with the Alien Enemies Act. The White House has maintained it can use the 18th-century wartime law to deport alleged Venezuelan gang members. A federal judge blocked the effort, claiming the immigrants are entitled to individual hearings to determine if they are indeed gang members.        The editor of The Atlantic is detailing an accidental text from Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth that included key details of a plan to bomb Houthi targets. Jeffrey Goldberg said he was included on a text chain on the encrypted messaging app Signal that also appeared to include Vice President Vance, national security adviser Mike Waltz, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard and Hegseth. The message reportedly included weapons to be used, targets across Yemen, and timing.        President Trump is announcing a major U.S. investment by Hyundai. The South Korean automaker is going to invest 20-billion-dollars which includes a five-billion-dollar steel plant in Louisiana. Trump said this is proof that his tariffs are working.        Stocks are closing sharply higher on Wall Street. Markets got a boost after President Trump signaled he may dial back on tariff plans to avoid an economic slowdown. Tesla shares were among the biggest gainers, up more than ten percent. At the closing bell, the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 597 points to 42-583. The S&P 500 rose 100 points to 57-67. The Nasdaq climbed 404 points to 18-188.        The FBI is issuing a public warning about targeted attacks on Tesla vehicles. In a statement, the FBI urged the public to "exercise vigilance and look out for suspicious activity." This comes after several incidents across the country involving Tesla vehicles, charging stations and dealerships being vandalized.        The next Powerball drawing is set for tonight. The jackpot sits at 461-million-dollars. That comes with a cash value of over 217-million.
