Some dedicated volunteers have put together a great set of events for NS Days. They are another example of how North Smithfield works together to make good things happen. I am sure those who will attend the sold out Dinner Under the Stars tonight will enjoy a great evening but there are other events this evening and tomorrow as noted below. Both Pacheco Park and the high school grounds will be loaded with fun for all. For the foodies out there, food trucks will be at the high school from 3 to 9 PM on Saturday. Part of their proceeds will help the effort to place a monument for the establishment of our high school field as Veterans Memorial Stadium. And of course it all ends with fireworks tomorrow night. Join the fun that people have provided great effort to arrange! Again, please see the schedule of events listed below!

Of course these pages would not be complete without an update on road work which is going to be everywhere over the next couple of weeks. St. Paul St will be paved next week. The areas nearby town hall will also be receiving their final course of asphalt. Caution is advised near town hall in particular as the process creates an obstacle course due to the need to raise structures before the final course of asphalt is placed. Drive through the area cautiously please. Finally, our own road reconstruction work will be kicking off on Wilks, Rainville and a portion of Carlton next week. We ask residents there to avoid parking vehicles in the street during the working hours until after the work is complete. I hope we can see these all as temporary inconveniences for permanent improvement!

ATTENTION NORTH SMITHFIELD RESIDENTS ON PARKVIEW DRIVE, EDWARD AVENUE, AND NORTH MAIN STREET

UPDATE: WORK HAS BEEN EXTENDED INTO THE WEEK OF JULY 15TH

Upgrades will be made to the Slatersville Public Water System starting the week of July 8th, 2019 on the above mentioned streets.

Short interruptions of water service should be anticipated. The Water Department will be changing out the hydrants and installing new valves to the system which will isolate water to the Parkview Drive and Edward Avenue and North Main Areas. Currently, when work is required on this line, water service is interrupted to ALL of Parkview and Edward and a good portion of North Main. These new valves will separate the service to limit the number of users impacted if water service needs to be interrupted. While not pleasing to look at when they're going on, these improvements need to be made to enhance water service to you and your neighbors.

Any questions or concerns can be addressed to Maura Beck, North Smithfield Water & Sewer Coordinator, 401-767-2200 x305 or This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

President Trump says the U.S. economy is along way from recession. Speaking at the White House Tuesday, Trump says he thinks the word recession is "inappropriate" and claimed the media just uses it. Trump added that if the Federal Reserve would do its job, the economy would see "growth like never before." Trump said he's considering indexing and possible tax cuts, including a payroll tax.       President Trump is canceling his meeting with Denmark's prime minister over her refusal to discuss possibly selling Greenland to the U.S. After reports of Trump's interest in having the U.S. purchase Greenland became public, the Danish leader adamantly said Greenland, which is an autonomous Danish territory, is not for sale. On Twitter, Trump said the Danish leader "was able to save a great deal of expense and effort" by being so direct.        Former Vatican Treasurer George Pell will not be retried for his sex abuse conviction. Pell was the most senior Catholic official to be convicted for sexually abusing children. The 78-year-old was sentenced to six-years in prison in Australia for assaulting two 13-year-old boys in the mid-1990s.       The equal-pay lawsuit filed by the U.S. women's soccer team will head to trial next May. The players are looking forward to their day in court. A spokesperson said today "We have every confidence that these world champion athletes will get what they legally deserve -- nothing less than equal pay and working conditions." The team filed the lawsuit in March claiming federal discrimination by paying women less than men.        Another Matrix film is in the works. Lana Wachowski is back and set to write and direct the fourth installment of the hit film series. Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss, who starred in the first three movies, will return to reprise their roles. The three previous films earned more than one-point-six billion dollars globally.
