Congratulations to Nathan Wetmore of Troop 1139 Slatersville for achieving his Eagle Scout rank.

 Nate worked with Matt Tek at Camp Phoenix to design and build a 16’ x 14’ deck off of the main office building that would assist with the check-in and check-out of campers along with any other administration needs complete with handicap accessible ramp. 

Congratulations to Matthew Lagasse of Troop 1139 Slatersville for achieving his Eagle Scout rank.

 Matthew worked with St. John the Evangelist Church to install new flagpoles.

The Food Pantry is for North Smithfield residents.

You must have a photo ID and a bill that confirms your North Smithfield address. You can attend the Food Pantry all four times it is open per month.

The Pantry is located at the Slatersville Congregational Church

UCC on the Common.

 

Starting in the month of May we will be opening our pantry for indoor shopping. We are asking that all clients to please bring their own shopping bag and to wear a mask while inside.

LIVESTREAMING OPEN MEETINGS

A. Livestreaming for Town Council, Halliwell Review Committee, Zoning Board and Planning Board: The Town will provide livestreaming for the open meetings of the Town Council, Halliwell Review Committee, Zoning Board of Review, and Planning Board whenever feasible via YouTube, Zoom, or some other technology. If technical difficulties occur during the livestream of an open meeting, the open meeting will continue to proceed as scheduled without livestreaming. (Livestreaming increases public access to public meetings in addition to the right of the public to attend open meetings in person.)

B. Public must be physically present to participate. Members of the public, applicants, petitioners, expert s, etc. who want to participate in an open meeting in any fashion must be physically present at the meeting. Members of the public, applicants, petitioners, experts, etc. will not be allowed to participate in an open meeting remotely by offering comment, testimony, or other remarks. through virtual means.

C. No other Board, Commission, or Committee will be livestreamed: Except as specified above, the Town will not provide livestreaming for any other Board, Commission or Committee.

D. Technical Difficulties: If technical difficulties occur during any livestream, the open meeting will continue to proceed as scheduled.

New York City authorities are stepping up security in anticipation of a possible arrest of former President Trump. Barricades are set up around Trump Tower and outside criminal court in Lower Manhattan. Trump posted on social media over the weekend that he would be arrested today and he told his supporters to protest.       President Biden has signed legislation to declassify information related to the origins of COVID-19. Biden signed the measure after Congress passed it unanimously. In a statement, Biden highlighted the importance of getting "to the bottom of COVID-19's origins to help ensure we can better prevent future pandemics."       A Virginia elementary school teacher who was shot by a six-year-old student earlier this year says some days she can't get out of bed. Abigail Zwerner talked about her recovery with NBC's Today show. She said she's focused on recovery and trying to stay positive.       California is taking on the opioid crisis in a new way. Governor Gavin Newsom says his master plan to save lives includes the state making its own Narcan and relying more on the National Guard. He calls it a "comprehensive approach" that will also crack down on criminal organizations trafficking what he calls "poison" into communities.       Almost two dozen state attorneys general are asking Hyundai and Kia to make their cars harder to steal. They sent a letter to the automakers Monday citing a "crisis of thefts." They blamed the companies for failing to install anti-theft immobilizers in their vehicles.       NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell will be sticking around for awhile. ESPN reports Goodell and NFL owners are expected to finalize a multiyear contract extension at next week's owners meeting in Phoenix. It'll be the fourth time Goodell has been extended since he became commissioner in 2006.
