Congratulations to Nathan Wetmore of Troop 1139 Slatersville for achieving his Eagle Scout rank.

 Nate worked with Matt Tek at Camp Phoenix to design and build a 16’ x 14’ deck off of the main office building that would assist with the check-in and check-out of campers along with any other administration needs complete with handicap accessible ramp. 

Congratulations to Matthew Lagasse of Troop 1139 Slatersville for achieving his Eagle Scout rank.

 Matthew worked with St. John the Evangelist Church to install new flagpoles.

The Food Pantry is for North Smithfield residents.

You must have a photo ID and a bill that confirms your North Smithfield address. You can attend the Food Pantry all four times it is open per month.

The Pantry is located at the Slatersville Congregational Church

UCC on the Common.

 

Starting in the month of May we will be opening our pantry for indoor shopping. We are asking that all clients to please bring their own shopping bag and to wear a mask while inside.

LIVESTREAMING OPEN MEETINGS

A. Livestreaming for Town Council, Halliwell Review Committee, Zoning Board and Planning Board: The Town will provide livestreaming for the open meetings of the Town Council, Halliwell Review Committee, Zoning Board of Review, and Planning Board whenever feasible via YouTube, Zoom, or some other technology. If technical difficulties occur during the livestream of an open meeting, the open meeting will continue to proceed as scheduled without livestreaming. (Livestreaming increases public access to public meetings in addition to the right of the public to attend open meetings in person.)

B. Public must be physically present to participate. Members of the public, applicants, petitioners, expert s, etc. who want to participate in an open meeting in any fashion must be physically present at the meeting. Members of the public, applicants, petitioners, experts, etc. will not be allowed to participate in an open meeting remotely by offering comment, testimony, or other remarks. through virtual means.

C. No other Board, Commission, or Committee will be livestreamed: Except as specified above, the Town will not provide livestreaming for any other Board, Commission or Committee.

D. Technical Difficulties: If technical difficulties occur during any livestream, the open meeting will continue to proceed as scheduled.

The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals says President Trump can send National Guard troops to Portland. Under the ruling, the justices said presidential determinations are not reviewable by federal courts. The Court of Appeals lacks the power to issue injunctive relief. The City of Portland couldn't show an injury, since the troops hadn't been deployed.        President Trump says he thinks a trade deal can be reached with China. Monday at the White House, Trump again said the U.S. has been treated very unfairly by the Chinese when it comes to trade and tariffs.        The NBA regular season starts today. The nightcap features a Golden State showdown between Luka Doncic [[ DON-chitch ]] and the Lakers against Steph Curry's Warriors from Los Angeles.        Authorities says former NFL running back Doug Martin died in police custody. The Oakland Police Department said Monday the 36-year-old Martin was involved in a break-in at a home. They say he struggled with officers who were trying to detain him, and became unresponsive after being taken into custody.        A Rutgers University fraternity is under suspension after a hazing incident left one student in critical condition. The 19-year-old was found injured and unresponsive at Alpha Sigma Phi's off-campus house last Wednesday.        Food allergies in children are on the decline and it may be linked to different guidance on peanuts. In 2017, the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases recommended parents introduce their babies to peanuts in an effort to significantly reduce their chances of being allergic based on a previous study. A new study in the journal Pediatrics finds there was a 43 percent drop-in peanut allergy rates in children under the age of three since that guidance has been issued.
