Governor McKee Issues Proclamation Celebrating LGBTQ+ Pride Month

PROVIDENCE, RI – Governor Dan McKee today issued a proclamation designating June as LGBTQ+ Pride Month.

“Rhode Island stands with the LGBTQ+ community this month and every month. In June, we take the time to celebrate and honor the contributions that the LGBTQ+ community has made to the Ocean State,” said Governor McKee. “Diversity is what makes us all stronger. We will continue to push back against intolerance to ensure all individuals are safe and welcome in Rhode Island.”

“With LGBTQ+ rights under attack in states across the nation, welcoming Pride Month is more important than ever. Today’s celebration is our promise that Rhode Island is and always will be a refuge from persecution,” said Lt. Governor Sabina Matos.

The State House will be illuminated with Pride colors on June 1 and from June 16 through June 18 for Pride Weekend.

The full proclamation is available to read here.

Minnesota leaders are being accused by Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem of "inflaming" the public after last week's deadly ICE shooting. Appearing on CNN's "State of the Union," Noem said Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey have politicized and inappropriately talked about the situation. Her comments come as protests were held in major cities across the country in response to the fatal shooting.        President Trump says "strong options" are being considered as protests in Iran continue. He was asked Sunday on Air Force One if Iran was crossing a red line, saying that he felt like they were starting to, and that there were "some people killed that aren't supposed to be killed." Trump added Iranian leaders called him on Saturday wanting to negotiate.        An ex-husband has been taken into custody in connection with the double-murder of an Ohio dentist and his wife. Spencer Tepe and his wife Monique were found dead from gunshot wounds in their Columbus home on December 30th. Court records show Monique's ex-husband, Michael David McKee, was arrested on Saturday in the Chicago area.        There will be more testimony today in Texas in the trial of a former Uvalde officer charged for his response to the deadly 2022 school shooting. Adrian Gonzales is accused of failing to engage the gunman after arriving at Robb Elementary School just before the shooting started. Two teachers and 19 children were killed, and another ten kids were wounded.        Nobel peace prize organizers say the award can't be shared by Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado. She has expressed a desire to give her award to President Trump after she won the prize in October. She is expected to be in the U.S. this week and meet with Trump for the first time.        The NFL will not have a repeat champion this year. The San Francisco 49ers upset the defending champion Philadelphia Eagles in the Wild Card round yesterday to advance. Meanwhile, the Buffalo Bills, New England Patriots, Chicago Bears and Los Angeles Rams all also punched their ticket to the next round.
