Agenda posted October 3, 2024

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is expected to ask for American missiles when he meets with President Trump today. Zelensky will be at the White House to discuss the possibility of receiving Tomahawk missiles as part of the ongoing effort to end the Russia-Ukraine war. The two leaders are also expected to discuss Trump's recent call with Russian leader Vladimir Putin.        Former Trump adviser John Bolton is expected to surrender to federal authorities today. Bolton was indicted yesterday on federal charges related to alleged mishandling of classified documents. He's been a vocal critic of Trump, and says that the indictment is politically motivated.        The federal shutdown is now in its 17th day after the Senate once again failed to pass a spending measure that would have funded the government. Thursday's vote was the tenth time lawmakers have attempted to pass the GOP legislation. Democrats are holding firm on wanting healthcare subsidies preserved in the measure.        A judge in Chicago says she'll order federal agents to wear body cameras when they're deployed to the city. On Thursday the judge said she was concerned that agents may have violated a previous restraining order limiting their use of tear gas, and that she'll expand that order in response.        The state of Arizona is scheduled to carry out an execution today. Richard Djerf [[ jerf ]] was convicted on four counts of first-degree murder and sentenced to death in 1996. He's scheduled to die by lethal injection for killing four members of a Phoenix family. This will mark the fourth execution in the U.S. this week.        Hawaii's Kilauea [[ key-lo-ay-uh ]] volcano is expected to erupt within the next few days. The volcano on Hawaii's Big Island has been erupting on and off since last December, with the last eruption ending on October 1st. The Hawaii Volcano Observatory says it's about to erupt again any time now. Fountains of lava hundreds of feet high are expected during the eruption.
