RIPTA’s Successful Newport Hop-On Hop-Off Promotion Ends

Customer Service Kiosk to Remain Open through December

 

Providence, Rhode Island… Following a successful summer season, the Rhode Island Public Transit Authority’s (RIPTA) free “Hop-On Hop-Off” bus service promotion in Newport concluded yesterday, October 31, 2024.  The free service, funded by Discover Newport and the Episcopal Diocese of Rhode Island, provided transportation around Newport to popular tourist destinations and beaches. This included all service on Route 67 (Bellevue/Salve Regina Univ.) and Route 68 (CCRI/Memorial Blvd./First Beach).

 

Starting today, November 1, 2024, passengers must pay the full fare on Routes 67 and 68.

 

The RIPTA Customer Service Kiosk in the Newport Transportation Center, which opened for the duration of the promotion, will remain open daily through December 31, 2024.

 

The public bathrooms at the Transportation Center, located at 23 America's Cup Avenue, Newport will remain open daily from 8am until 4pm, through the end of the year. The bathrooms were scheduled to close on November 1, 2024, but due to the support of Discover Newport, the City of Newport and RIPTA, they will remain open for the duration of 2024 to assist with all of the visitors and residents in town through the holiday season.

The deadly ICE-involved shooting in Minneapolis is turning into a political flashpoint. Minnesota Democratic Governor Tim Walz says President Trump is blaming the deceased woman, Renee Good, for the incident without knowing all the facts. Meanwhile, Vice President JD Vance said today the woman's death was a result of Democrats and far-left networks demonizing law enforcement.        The suspect in yesterday's shooting outside a Utah church that killed two people and injured six others is still on the loose. Police say a funeral was taking place at an LDS church in Salt Lake City Wednesday when an altercation broke out in the parking lot and shots were fired at a group of people. Of those injured, three are in critical condition.        Stocks are mixed to close the day on Wall Street. It comes as investors moved away from technology stocks, with Nvidia and Oracle among the companies seeing impacts. Elsewhere, defense stocks saw a bright spot after President Trump called for a one-point-five-trillion-dollar defense budget in 2027. At the closing bell, the Dow Jones Industrial Average jumped 270 points to 49-266. The S&P 500 rose less than point to 69-21. The Nasdaq dropped 104 points to 23-480.        With his final year in office underway, California Governor Gavin Newsom is criticizing the federal government. He gave his final State of the State address at California's capitol in Sacramento on Thursday. Newsom said there is "purposeful chaos" coming from the White House, referring to President Trump's immigration policies.        Millions are under the threat of severe weather and floods as the first of two cross country storms heads East. The storm is moving out of the Four Corners region with Missouri and Kansas seeing downpours today, while a tornado has been confirmed in Oklahoma. The system will move through the Midwest throughout today.        The first ticket to the College Football National Championship game will be punched tonight. Number ten Miami will take on number six Ole Miss in the Fiesta Bowl semifinal game in Glendale, Arizona. The winner will face off in the National Championship against the victor of tomorrow's Peach Bowl between number five Oregon and number one Indiana.
