Agenda posted January 2, 2025

President Trump is meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte [[ RUH-tuh ]]. The meeting, announced on short notice, comes after a possible summit between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin was canceled. Trump spoke to Putin last week about efforts to end the Russia-Ukraine war.        The Senate plans to hold a vote today on a measure that would end the government shutdown. It comes as Oregon Democrat Jeff Merkley has been speaking on the floor since yesterday evening. Senate Democrats refuse to vote for a House funding resolution unless it extends health insurance subsidies used by over 20-million people.        Another strike on an alleged drug-trafficking vessel has been carried out by the U.S. In a post on X, War Secretary Pete Hegseth announced two alleged narco-terrorists were killed in the eastern Pacific Ocean. This marks an apparent expansion of the strikes as they all previously happened in Caribbean waters.        Stocks are down to end the day on Wall Street. It comes as concerns are growing among investors about a potential trade war with China. President Trump recently said his administration would put in place export restrictions on any "critical software" by November 1st.        A scan of your face will be required to use one of the biggest dating apps on the planet. Tinder is announcing a first-of-its-kind facial verification feature that helps confirm users are real and match their profile photos. Match Group, which owns Tinder, says the policy will apply to all new users in the U.S.        NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell says Bad Bunny's Super Bowl halftime show is "going to be exciting and a united moment." Speaking to reporters at the NFL owners meeting in New York, Goodell said the Puerto Rican artist is "one of the leading and most popular entertainers in the world." Bad Bunny's selection has drawn backlash from the likes of President Trump and a petition to replace him with country music legend George Strait has received thousands of signatures.
