Governor McKee, Commissioner Infante-Green Recognize Weekly Attendance Leaders

Week of March 11, 2024 

 

PROVIDENCE, RI – Acknowledging the importance of consistent attendance in education and in alignment with the #AttendanceMatters campaign, Governor Dan McKee and Commissioner Angélica Infante-Green are pleased to highlight the top elementary, middle, and high schools with the greatest average weekly attendance. 

 

The following schools are Rhode Island’s attendance leaders for the week of March 11, 2024*: 

·     Elementary: Winsor Hill School, Johnston – 98.1% 

·     Middle: Times2 STEM Academy, Providence** – 98.5%

·     High: Classical High School, Providence – 97.4% 

 

Special recognition is extended to the following schools for demonstrating the most improved average attendance rates from the previous week:  

 

·     Elementary: Norwood Elementary School, Warwick -- 6.8% 

·     Middle: Burrillville Middle School – 3.7%

·     High: Toll Gate High School, Warwick – 8.5% 

 

The Governor and Commissioner express their gratitude and encouragement to all schools in Rhode Island for their ongoing efforts to prioritize attendance and reinforce the value of consistent learning experiences for all students.

A four-month-old in Oklahoma is among those killed by a severe storm system in the Midwest. At least five deaths are being reported as a result of the weekend storms. The towns of Sulphur, Oklahoma and Minden, Iowa were among those cities with the worst damage.       An unnamed Hamas official says the Palestinian group has "no major issues" with a proposal that could result in freeing the remaining 133 hostages being held captive in Gaza. The Paris-based news agency AFP is citing an official who spoke on the condition of anonymity. Negotiators from Egypt and Qatar [[ CUT-ter ]] are meeting in Cairo today with Secretary of State Antony Blinken on his seventh visit to the region in recent months.       Former President Trump and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis have met in Miami to apparently make amends and discuss fundraising. According to The Washington Post, the two met Sunday for a private meeting brokered by political allies that resulted in DeSantis agreeing to assist Trump. The pair had reportedly not talked since DeSantis dropped out of the race back in January.       Harvey Weinstein is out of the hospital and back in prison. The 72-year-old former Hollywood producer spent part of the weekend in a Manhattan hospital for tests. Weinstein will be back in Manhattan Criminal Court on Wednesday as the district attorney's office says it intends to re-try him after his 2020 rape conviction was overturned.        Elon Musk hopes to market Tesla's new advanced driver-assistance systems in China. The CEO of the electric vehicle company arrived in Beijing over the weekend to meet with Chinese leaders in a bid to get approval for Full Self-Driving software.        Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan says he's proud after the city shattered the record for attendance at the NFL Draft this weekend. More than three-quarters of a million people attended the three-day event.
